Flu is a highly infectious illness that spreads rapidly through the coughs and sneezes of people who are carrying the virus.
If you’re at risk of complications from flu, make sure you have your annual flu vaccine, available each year usually from October onwards.
There are two types of flu vaccine:
- the injected flu vaccine for adults and children under two
- nasal spray flu vaccine for children over the age of two
For more information on Flu Vaccinations and who is eligible to receive a free vaccination see the nhs website here: Flu vaccine – NHS (www.nhs.uk)

Children under 18 cannot get the flu vaccine at a pharmacy. But they may be able to get it from their GP surgery or school.
Will I get the same flu jab at my Community Pharmacy as I would at the GP surgery?
Yes, the NHS flu jab service is the same wherever you access it. The NHS Vaccination Service decide each year which flu strains should be in the vaccine and which types of vaccine should be used. This means wherever you have your flu jab you can be sure that you are having a vaccine that is in line with the current guidelines.
